Fracking our Food

I knew that fracking was terrible for the environment. I felt that no child would be safe for 3 generations if raised in an area that had fracking. This article describes why:   In a Brooklyn winery on a sultry July evening, an elegant crowd sips rosé and nibbles trout plucked from the gin-clear streams of upstate New York. The diners are here, with their checkbooks, to support a group called Chefs for the Marcellus, which works to protect the foodshed upon which hundreds of regional farm-to-fork restaurants depend. The foodshed is coincident with the Marcellus Shale, a geologic formation that arcs northeast from West Virginia through Pennsylvania and into New York State. As everyone invited here knows, the region is both agriculturally and energy rich, with...

American Eat Their Weight in GMO’s a Year (30 more GM foods in the pipeline)

(NaturalNews) The consumer advocacy organization Environmental Working Group (EWG) has put out a new paper that estimates the average person's yearly consumption of genetically-modified organisms (GMOs). And based on the figures, which EWG admits are very likely understated, the average person consumes more than their own body weight's worth of GMOs every single year, a shocking reality with unknown, long-term health consequences.   For their study, EWG researchers compiled data from 2011 U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) data sheets on average per capita consumption of various GM foods, including corn-based sweeteners like corn syrup, salad oils, and various other "corn products" like corn oil and corn meal. They then analyzed these figures based on the percentages of each of the crops used to make these products that...

Flax Crackers Video

Flax Crackers Here is my first attempt at a video cooking class. In it you will learn how to make flax crackers. Even though I make them using a dehydrator, there are instruction on how to make them with an oven. Flax seeds show up as very important for many people that I test in the office and are a good source of Omega-3 oils as well as other nutrients.   2 cups flax seeds partially ground. soak in 2 cups water with 1/4 cup of tamari soy sauce add 1 Tbs herbs like rosemary, ginger, garlic or lemon juice soak at least 1.5 hours or overnight. spread thinly on leather sheets of a dehydator on 115 degrees for 4-6 hours, then turn over for another 3-5 hours, or can leave...

Preventing the Big C

We all know someone who has had cancer. The rate is almost 1 out of 2 men and 1 out of 3 women in a lifetime. In 2012 a little over 1.6 million people in America were diagnosed with cancer. Most medicine is focused on early detection, but what about actually preventing getting a cancer diagnosis in the first place? Or if you were previously diagnosed, doing what you can to make sure it doesn’t return? Has it always been this way that so many of us have gotten cancer. It doesn’t appear so. It seems that cancer is a “modern” disease, and that traditional cultures showed little, if any, cancer. Dr.Albert Schweitzer studied over 10,000 traditionally-living Gabon natives in West Africa and never found cancer....

PARAPROSDOKIANS

PARAPROSDOKIANS (Winston Churchill loved them) are figures of speech in which the latter part of a sentence or phrase is surprising or unexpected and frequently humorous:   1. Where there's a will, I want to be in it.   2. The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But it's still on my list.   3. Since light travels faster than sound, some people appear bright until you hear them speak.   4. If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong.   5. We never really grow up; we only learn how to act in public.   6. War does not determine who is right - only who is left..   7. Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.   8. They begin the evening news with 'Good...

Pharmaceuticals in the Water Supply

So you don’t do drugs. Well that may not be true. Did you know that it has been recently shown that the water supplies of at least 41 million people in the U.S. are contaminated with dozens of pharmaceuticals that have come from the pee-pee of people and animals that take drugs. It is apparent that water treatment can not remove all traces of medications. Granted the levels of these drugs may be low, but certain drugs like hormones are meant to operate at parts per billion. There is evidence that drugs can react with chlorine and other chemicals in the water, rendering them more toxic. Fish downstream from a Nebraska feedlot were found to have depressed levels of testosterone and smaller than normal heads (does...

Newsletter-Winter 2012

Winter 2012 WARREN KING, L.AC.   Greeting Friends,   Do you know the root of the word Doctor doesnot mean healer but rather teacher. So I am getting inner direction to start doing more teaching. I will begin by sending out this newsletter more often. I'll share with you what I am learning by treating thousands of patients as well as what I am learning on the internet, in magazines, books, CD's and continuing education. I'll also pass on information that I'mgetting from my own intuition. In my own life I have added silent meditation to my practice, and spend about 15 minutes every other day before bed in meditation. I also have enlisted the help of apersonal trainer and am really pushing myself with a work out about every other day. Not only do I feel more...
